Hi
Till now i had only 2 folders but was not satisfied by the time i needed to take them out and unfold them...so I'm looking for a medium size (3,5-5'' blade) self defence fixed blade to cary on the back,or attached to the belt in the back.i shouldnt be to big and to heavy(a least not so heavy that my pants would fall down ;) ),with a kydex sheath...
I was thinking about the Cuda CQB2,gerber Yari and Bm Nimravus

Any opinions on these knives?Know any others the will do?And if Nimravus M2 or 154cm?

Thanks for the help

You couldn't have picked 3 more well-endorsed knives.
(that is, endorsed by the general population of BF)
Out of all of these, my preference is the CQB, (it's the only one I've owned) however, get which fits your hand the best, you won't regret any of these knives.

Spyderco Fred Perrin!!!

Easily the Sharpest knife from the factory I've every owned. Very Lightweight, but sturdy. Kydex Sheath with Tek-Lok. SUPER comfortable! Very 'fast' feeling. Around $80 with shipping if you shop around.

I consider it THE Perfect Concealed Self Defense Fixed Blade, but you may find another that works better for you.

Hope that helps,

-John

I'll second the Fred Perrin Bowie. I just bought one last week, and I really like its light weight and secure feel in the hand because of the deep finger choil. The knife came razor sharp, and it has the pointiest tip I have ever seen. The knife steel is VG-10, and it comes with a decent sheath and a mini tek-lok to allow for several carrying options. Just remember to push the knife into the sheath until it "clicks" and goes past the retaining bumps.

The Spyderco Temperance would also be a very good choice.:).

.....I'll also mention the Al Mar Knives SERE Operator (SRO).
I just received mine. It is my new fixed blade EDC.
The AMK SRO is suhweet!

I also have all of the above knives with the exception of the Nimravus.

I have the Nimravus and I love its look and ergos but I've found the blade to chip very easily...???:(

I got one of the early ones with ATS-34...the M2 should do better.

How about this...?:p

I know...maybe not as "medium-sized" like you asked for but it's not too big. I just never tire of looking at it...

Someday...soooomeday.

Hey, I just noticed something. This knife IS medium sized. It's a 5.5" GB from Reeve. I'd only seen the 7" blade before as that's all he lists and shows on his website.

Is this a custom or does he need to update the website?
Anybody know?

I'll chime in for the Nimravus. I've had mine (M2, plain-edge) for a little over a week and I can't seem to put it down! It feels very good in my hand, is very lightweight, and comes with a pretty decent kydex sheath. I got it for the same reasons you stated above. I don't have any experience with the others you listed although I really like the Spyderco Temperance and may get one soon just because I can.

BUD NEALY'S are very well made and very easy to hide, great sheath system. I got three and love em all

I agree about the Spyderco Perrin. I find it easy to carry IWB with the help of an IWB loop that I stole off of another sheath. The VG10 blade is very sharp, the handle is very secure without being huge, and the knife is very light and quick.

Another vote for the Spydie Perrin. It's very light and low-profile, so concealment is easy, and the flat-ground VG10 is a wicked cutter. The deep index-finger cut-out means that the knife stays very very secure in the hand. the 3 knives you mentioned are all good blades, as far as I can tell from handling them & from reading their many positive reviews on the forums, but they are all chunkier than the Perrin, which simply melts away into your outfit - you'll never decide not to wear it b/c it's too heavy or bulky, and a knife is only useful if you have it on you!

another, but much smaller, good defensive Spydie FB is the Ronin.

Thnanks for all tehe posts...but why did you have to come with the Bud Nealy knives,i wanted to spend 150$ MAX and now i thinking on spending 300:D

well maybe someday...now i seriously thinking about the CUDA and the Spyderco Perrin-i think ill go for the perrin(i kin'a like synthetics more then micarta)but what is this FRN in the handle of the perrin? is it similar to g10 or maybe more like zytel?

The FRN is more similar to zytel than G10. With the FRN/ kraton combo, the handle has a very sturdy frame with grippy inserts.

The Yari is perfect per your stated needs. 4.9" of well balanced black 154CM, micarta handles, concealex sheath, and inexpensive too. A mini Teklok from Bladetech for $8 and you have an unbeatable combo. My favorite concealed EDC. Hard to find more slice for the rice:D

I use a TOPS strikar tanto XL, or sometimes a spyderco Fred PERRIN (now available in black....nice  )
and recently got a Bob Dozier model agent :D a dream...
