Medium sized flashlight suggestions?

Hi

Looking for a flashlight in the 15cm region, about the size of a Jetbeam RRT-2/21/Maelstrom G5. What do you guys suggest? I love the interface of the Jetbeams, especially the RRT-21. That's the one I've been eyeballing the most. The only thing that concerns me is that it seems to have quite a lot of spread with that XM-L LED, I think I'd prefer a bit more throw. I have a decent headlamp with a good spread.

Hypothetical situation, what type of LED more disorienting and useful in terms of strobe settings? I would assume it has a lot to do with how concentrated it is, not purely what the output is.

Anyway, would appreciate any suggestions. I'm looking to spend $100-150ish in the 300-500 lumens region.

The Fenix TK35, try 820 lumens ;)

I have a Klarus XT-10. Has a unique interface (two button cap). Great light, very bright on high setting (470 lumens). Has three modes, 1 flashing mode. Picked this one after much research online (reviews and video's).

Great suggestion! The XT-11 even more so. I don't really like that the modes jump from 600 lumens on high to 150(!!!) lumens on medium. That seems like a craazy jump. Which is why I like the Jetbeam RRT-21 since you have the infinitely variable control. Are there other lights out there with this feature? Or something like the Klarus XT-11 with say 4 presets, one of them being 300ish lumens?

Thanks for the help

Is there anyone who has experience with the Sunwayman T20CS CREE XM-L U2? This along with the RRT-21 are my two top choices atm. I still prefer the Jetbeam interface, but the Sunwayman has quite a bit more juice.

Your eyes don't see double the lumens as double the brightness, which is why you see the outputs spread out like that. It takes something like 3.4 times the lumens (hopefully someone will correct me) to see double the brightness.

The XT11 will actually do 700 lumens on CR123s, 750 on RCR123s. I still use mine on an 18650 since I prefer that battery type, but it's nice to know that the light can do a bit more.

RRT-21 and T20CS are good choices too. Between those, I would go for the T20CS. I like the rotary rings on a pocket light, but prefer preset modes on larger lights. You generally get better efficiency and they give you enough modes where you aren't hurting for an extra output or two. Being able to use only the side button on the T20CS is also nice.

I would have probably already picked up the T20CS if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't perform properly with a single 18650. According to several sources on CPF they couldn't notice any difference(or very little) brightness when switching from the turbo to high. This was not the case with CR123s though. I had the retailer I was planning on purchasing from check this for me, and he messaged me back almost right away saying that he was contacting Sunwayman as to why this is.

I, just like you, prefer the 18650 batteries. Unfortunately I live in isolated vikingland and there isn't a flashlight store that carries any brands worth mentioning for thousands of miles, so I can't really try them out in person. My flashlight would increase in price dramatically if I made a special trip to Going Gear ;)

Thanks for the input anyhoo

I have both a Fenix TK 15 and a TK 35. Great products and I really like using rechargeable 18650's.
Cheers...
