Medium stockman yellowhandle on tv

I have the TV on in the background and its on a local "around the town" channel. They were visiting a local farmer's market with a restuarant owner. They were talking about tomatoes with the farmer.

He reached in his pocket and opened up a Case Yellerhandle CV medium stockman and cut the mater open. A very dark blade was slicing and dicing. It was really cool to see it on tv.
 
Cool. Outside of Texas, Tennessee is about the only other state I would like to visit. Lots of folksy people there. A lot of knife dealers there, too.I keep telling the wife that we ought to go to Memphis. I keep hearing so much about y'all's BBQ. There are a lot of reasons I want to go. Maybe next year as we have different plans this year.

IF you do get to Tennessee, let me hip you to a trick I learned long ago when visiting my uncle in San Antonio: When you get to Tennessee, claim loudly and proudly to anyone who will listen that Texas BBQ is the real deal and the only BBQ worth eating ...... but then hint that you're open to being "convinced" if anyone thinks their favorite smoky pit is up to the challenge. ;) 229 pounds of smoked pork later, you tell them you're still not sure, but that you'll be back next year to continue the evaluation. LOL! Is it any wonder Mom's oldest brother (the aforementioned San Antonio uncle) used to call me a conniver? RIP, Uncle Bill.
 
LOL. That might just work but y'all are probably too smart for that!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the fishin' there. If it's good enough for Bill Dance, it should be good enough for me.

Genius! I wonder what the custom is in Tennessee regarding the use of pocket knives in barbecue joints. In my favorite local destinations you can still see old ranchers disdaining the use of plastic knives and hauling out their stockmen and trappers to slice up their brisket.

Now I see the problem. Beef brisket doesn't need to be cut with any knife, plastic or real, here. I stick my fork in and slightly twist. It falls apart.

Its kinda funny to watch some of these national chain bbq's come here to Memphis. They usually go out of business within a year or two. There are 3-4 famous places here, but there are many small mom&pop places that have been in biz for years and years that make the best bbq.

I have an uncle that owns a resturant about 2 hours north of Memphis close to Reelfoot Lake. He makes some of the best Ribs on the planet. I'm not a rib person normally, but we drive there sometimes just for the ribs. He has a good customer base that drives from Memphis regularly to get his ribs.

Now you guys have me drooling over BBQ. Tops BBQ in the parking lot of Bass Pro. Guess I'll have to go to both now. I've been good and not gone to them both since late Dec. Now, well, I blame you guys.
 
PLEAAAASE stop talking 'bout BBQ loudly. I ain't never seen no decent BBQ since I'm back over here:eek:.
Gives me the urge to come over to eat some good meat again - sauerbraten ain't for me :D

Its always nice seein' somebody use a trad. pocketknife though.

I really wasn't trying to start an argument about whose barbecue is better, I swear. In hindsight, I should have said that they use their knives to slice up the hotlinks and pork chops. That's what I use mine for, anyway.

Let's see if we can't get this back to traditional knives before the BBQ wars break out on the forum and the thread ends up elsewhere...;)
 
I have been using my yellow Medium Stockman daily since I got it for Christmas. The blades are getting a nice natural patina.

Ok, I went to have some BBQ at lunch thanks to these guys, and I took my yellerhandle CV med. stockman with me. haha. Too bad I didn't need to cut anything.

I've seen more people lately pulling med. stockmans of different brands out and using them on the job. Even on tv programs that are at jobsites. Opinel was being used cutting insulation a few weeks ago.
