Medium Tactical?

I have a gap in my edc rotation, and that is a medium tactical folder. Something that isnt big enough to raise eyes but still be large enough to where i dont feel under equipted. It needs to be thin so its easy to carry and still be wide/long enough to be comfortable in the hand. Ive been using a ffg delica but im afraid that it is in constant danger by those around me who dont understand how a knife works. So i want something sturdier. I already have a salt1 and dont particularly want another delica, but im sure a few more are in my future.

So a fairly stout bladestock, with about a 3-2in blade, decent steel, and it needs to cut well. I dont want a massively thick blade but definitely a step above my ffg delica.

I want to have a light edc knife that isnt obtrusive or too frightening to sheeple but still at the end of the day feel like i have a knife that i could defend myself with or use to extract someone from a car. I know that the situation will most likely never rise and that there are better ways to defend oneself, but I like to have that last resort clipped in my pocket, it makes me feel better.

bonus points for:
wharnies
reverse tantos
flippers
carbon fiber
m4
window breaker

here are a few that are on my mind

Al mar falcon talon
spyderco terzuola (i love everything about this one except the lanyard loop. I dont use lanyards and the loop sticks into the hand. probably going to wait for the starmate)

Well, the Al Mar Falcon is by no means heavy duty, in fact the one I had felt more fragile than my FFG Delica, the blade is thin as well as the handle and it is VERY light, great knife but not heavy duty in the least.

Since you like window breakers check out the Benchmade Triage, it was made for rescuing people. The Kershaw Blur is worth mentioning (I especially like the S30V model, stonewash blade is awesome). Ontario RAT 1 is another, I have my eye on the Cold Steel American Lawman, that qualifies as a heavy duty folder capable of surviving being handled by non-knife people.

+1 on the blur, you'd be hard pressed to find more more solidly built knife for the money

CS Holdout III. Just a very very stout, small, thin, very well made folder. Check it out. keepem sharp

+1 on the Benchmade Triage. One of few knives that isn't ruined by the look of the glass breaker IMO. And mmmmmm safety orange :D

I like the design of the triage. how bulky is it in the pocket? what about the steel? i have never used it before. Those kershaw blurs are nice too, i had one that was gifted away after being carried for a bit.

Im really trying to find a sort of gentleman's tactical knife. haha if there is such a thing

Triage is about the size of a full griptilian. Gentelmens tactical, maybe the Spyderco Gayle Bradley or if you can swing it the new fluted titanium military.

i already have a spyderco gayle bradely, and those fluted millies are always sold out. i prefer a wharencliff or reverse tanto to sheepsfoot. or anything bowie style or with a top swedge/false edge.

It may not be a great suggestion since it's not out quite yet, but the Yojimbo 2 is supposed to hit soon and might serve your purposes quite well.

yea i almost put the yojimbo 2 as one of the knives i was considering but i am definitely getting one anyways. the only other knife iv been waiting to be released is the zt 560

How about a medium Voyager?

If you're worried about the way other people use a knife, Cold steel knives aren't too expensive and the Tri-Ad Lock is as strong as they come.

Hey all,
+1 on the Blur, I abused mine for three years, ABUSED!
When I finally broke it, I sent it back, no box, no receipt,
Just a letterms,
They shipped me a replacement most Ricky tic!
I wouldn't count out CRKT's M16 series, stout, and not too
pricey.

These are all good knives but im leaning towards something more refined and less tactical looking. What do you guys think about the spyderco persian 2?

or a small fixed blade. around the size of the scrapivore?

No need to look any farther than the Scrapivore,
You just have to decide how your going to carry it!
Mine came in yesterday, I'm really pleased!

The Boker Plus line has some pretty nifty Chad Los Banos designs available that might fit the bill. I dig my Hyper, but you might want to check out the Trance, M-Type, Compliance, or XS models as well--all 3" or less.
