Just picked up a 440C version of the Meerkat.
Glad to see companies like Spyderco and Benchmade are "rediscovering" 440C. It takes and keeps a wicked edge. My Meerkat is now hair-popping sharp after a couple of passes on the Sharpmaker. Buck used to use 440C, and I know how well some of the older 110s hold and keep an edge.
As for size, the Meerkat is small, but I think that Spyderco has done a great job of thinking through the ergonomics of the Meerkat (and the similarly shaped Navigator, which I recently bought as well). The handle is form-fitted to even a big hand like mine, and the back of the blade forms a perfectly secure spot for the thumb.
I was dubious about wire clips even after getting a Native III and seeing that they secure a knife pretty nicely. However, on this little knife, they are perfect, and I'm beginning to change my mind about the wire after seeing just how low a clipped knife can sit in the pocket. The Meerkat virtually disappears and can easily be mistaken for a pager/beeper.
Great job Spyderco.
