Meerkat phantom lock

I have a question for other meerkat owners: Does the phantom lock hold the blade closed like other back-lock knives? Mine seems to have a fair amount of play in the closed/almost closed position.

My Meerkat stays closed - period. Yours should too. If there is insufficient spring pressure to keep the blade closed, then you should contact the Warranty/Repair department at Spyderco and have it repaired/replaced.

Great little knife! Judging from the number of posts so far on this particular forum regarding the Meerkat, it appears to have a higher rate of problems than the other models; that's just my personal observation, though - please don't take that as fact...

Mine has been tight as a drum in every way for over three months now, and I love it. The only problem that I have ever had with it was trying to figure out how to close the damned thing when I first got it!

I also noticed the clip-side scale is separating from the liner. I guess any will send it in for inspection/repair.

I had the clip side seperating from the liner on two Meerkats. I gave up and ordered a Salsa. those are cool knives!!
