Guess I've been working on this project for a couple weeks now and I'm still not 100% done with the bowie but I have been pretty excited about showing off the sheath so here it is. I still need to do some more hand rubbing on the blade and then I'll get it epoxied and sharpened. The bowie has a 9 1/2" W-5 blade. The usual wrought iron fittings and a curly maple handle. Its 14 1/2" overall.

I got the idea for the sheath after looking at "Its a Burl" website. There is a wood carving on the home page that caught my eye. I asked Mark if he could please send me the photo of the carving and he said the carvings were all over his business so he sent me around 10 different photo's of the various carvings. After studying the photo's for awhile I ended up wanting to do a composite of a couple different ones besides adding some of myself. At the same time doubt had crept into my head thinking I'd never be able to pull it off but I went ahead and gave it a try and I think it worked out. Thanks a lot Mark for the photo's.

Ray,I have a tattoo on my arm that looks just like that! It's funny that you posted this, because just the ohter day I was thinking that a wizard or wood spirt, would look cool on one of your sheaths, and now here it is!Great job on both! Next you should consider an Indian Chief!

That is exquisite Ray. Probably my favorite to date of your knife and sheath packages.

I think an Indian Chief would be a great subject too.

That's crazy good......you are really taking these sheaths to a new level.

Love the belly on that bowie, and your sheath carving just gets better and better.

Ray,

It's been a while since I've seen that awesome belly on one of your big knives --- I really like it. As I've said before, I also love the little extra detail on the fittings and guard. That's a great looking knife.

And the sheath --- I think it's your best to date. There's a load of detail in this one, especially in the face and beard. I'm super impressed. Talk about a conversation piece, this one would be a gem to have and "show off".

You're work is awesome.

Nice Ray. Self portraits are kinda tricky aren't they? :-)

I love how the handle turned out.

Take care, my friend.

John, You got me thinking about Indians. The bad thing about what I've been doing with the sheaths is its hard to get a whole bunch of detail on such a small canvas. Thoughts of just doing some art on a 5X7 or and 8X10 would give me more room to work. Got some ideas rolling around in my head now.

I appreciate the comments!

Ray, I think that may be my favourite knife of yours to date. The blade profile is exciting and bold, the finish on the handle exquisite and the file work on the fittings dresses things up. And the sheath... Man that's out of sight. Beautiful and very original.

Wonderful sheath and I really like this bowie shape with your style...simply stunning. Hope I get to see this in Eugene!

Best,
Eric
