I was curious if any of you have met a knifemaker(not at a knife show) in their early years and later they become famous. My first girlfriend lived in Palestine Texas and my first trip there I went to a large tin shed and met a very nice man who had been listed in the books as a maker of Damascus knives.I had always loved knifes and as he graciously answered my questions I had no idea that he would become so well known.The year was 1979 and his name was Don Hastings.All I can say was he was one heck of a nice guy and well versed in knives-----
