OK, so it's really a recommendation for a new Filipino restaurant, but I didn't know where better to put it. And truthfully, a lot of FMA people eat there.
It's called Bahay Natin, at 10032 Venice Blvd. (just East of Motor, on the South side of Venice, in a little corner mini-mall), Los Angeles. Phone (310) 841-6559. Lunch or dinner, cafeteria style, is $4. You get soup, rice, and two main dishes. Some like pork adobo are fine for just about any gringo, like me. Other dishes, like the stew made with tripe and oxtail, are more adventuresome.
In any event, the food is good and plentiful and you won't be risking a lot of bucks to try it.
