Hey guys, well it's time for a website, someplace for me to showcase all the goodies instead of living in the past. Meeting with a guy this AM to start the process, if you guys have any suggestions on what you think it should look like or other info please post it. My domain name will be Kershawguy.com ( of course) that is easy enough , right ? It will have a check out feature and I will be able to post photos and descriptions, I do not think it will be a high powered website like some have, but it is a start and I am excited. Thanks again for all the business you guys have given me and the trust you have extended, I have been truly blessed in this business, and it continues to grow, I know that many things have contributed to it's success, including hard work, but I give all the credit to God, because I believe all things come from Him. Thanks again for all the support. I will continue to work hard for you guys and we will get some cool knives or my name is not Kershawguy, Ha.

You're successful because you really care about your customer base and provide excellent customer service. When people here think Kershaw, they undoubtedly think of you first. Thanks for the excellent service and keep up the good work!!!!

A few suggestions:

- Pictures! From various angles - in sheath/closed, out of sheath/open, both sides (especially for folders with pocket clips), included accessories, etc.
- no pop-ups.
- no Flash.
- no audio or goofy animations.
- must work with all popular web browsers including mobile. No I.E. specific coding!

HTH,

Dave

Way cool, Dave! I'll keep sending over people because of how awesome you are!

For the website, remember:

Simple is best
People love pictures
Leave a big portion for feedback so that people can submit their cool story about your service.

Those three should help guide you somewhat, as well as all of the other excellent suggestions.

Very way cool! Though I haven't bought from you yet, I will.

Only suggestion I have is to show pics of the front and back side of the knives. That way clip position can be seen.:)

I'm sure the web dude won't go for it, but I sure like ragweedforge's oh-so-basic site. So simple and streamline.
Otherwise, good pics from different angles is my best suggestion.
Thorough specs too, including weights. Oh yeah, and a whole page for "free knives." :p

from ragweedforge...
This page can be viewed with any browser, including text browsers like LYNX. It will not blink, bark at you, or layer frames. There are no scrolling banners, spinning heads, or pop-up ads that won't go away. You'll just have to read it!

But it will load quickly.

Why, you ask? Because it was originally put up with a 286. When I first got on the web, my main browser was the server based text browser LYNX. While I have upgraded several times now, I'm still considering the new stuff. I'm under whelmed by the possibilities. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should do so. The more I view pages with multiple frames, cluttered graphics, animated gifs and blinking icons, the more I appreciate clear, full screen pages.

I'll take it!

Oops just my reflex when I see a thread kershawguy started.

Anyways, I agree with the sentiment above about staying simple, clear, and concise with the layout in contrast to lots of flash and clutter that tends to crash my computer.

Additionally, I personally prefer when items that are shown are in stock and ready to ship with the an exception for new item pre-orders. There is nothing worse than seeing a picture of a knife you want and clicking on the picture to find that the knife is out of stock. Or worse yet, ordering the knife and finding out later that it is backordered.

Congratulations and good luck on the new site Dave!!! I'm excited.

you should have a line that says:

"if you dont buy the knives a couple boys down providence way will pay you a visit"

:D

Grats, and may God smile down on your new internet real estate project!

and like others said, make sure its compatible with other browsers, like firefox, mozilla, and mobile versions

Dave - go for it. You're a great guy with great products, great prices and great service.

ALL the best!

I think it would be nice if the site showed an up to date list of the items in stock or not. No messing about with "Sorry this item is out of stock" when you get to checkout or after you have ordered and get a disappointing e-mail later.

Your point is very well taken, I am sure a certain amount is to be expected but there are ways to minimize this if not completely curtail it.

Thanks

Awesome. I totally agree that i love the ragweed forge page. it is super basic, yet works great and every browser loves it. there are a couple of things that would be nice. 1. a good search function is an absolute necessity. i have literally refused to buy stuff from sites becuase their search function is sub-par. 2. LOTS OF PICTURES!!!! I really want to see what i am getting. you might want to talk to kershaw and see if you can use their photos. 3. a good sorting system. I think a sidebar with one page for ZT, one for kershaw, one for preorders, one for contact info and one for home would make the website much easier to navigate. under the kershaw and ZT pages you could have pages for blems and non blems. 4. put a description of what a blem is. it could be scary for someone if they did not know what the difference was and why the prices were so much lower.

Love the idea Dave, My only negative feeling is it won't have the same "personal touch" feel buying from a website. On the other hand, I know it'll probably make your life a hell of a lot easier. Good luck!!

I think you are wrong about this, everything to me is personal, it will have photos of friends and myself at knife shows and lots of info about Kershaw and about me. I will also have links to articles I have written and some other stuff that my Kershaw friends have written, it will be very personal and besides I have no plans of changing my business on the forums, it is my bread and butter and I love it, that won't change, it will just give you and others a place to go and see everything I have for sale. I think you will like it.

Dave

Sounds like an awesome idea. Will you have live inventory? Also what kind of a checkout system will you implement or will it be conducted in the same manner(email paypal/usps MO)?
