mega fire starting kit for the buddies off highway truck i sometimes drive :D

stored in a pelican 1500 case with road flares, a Sog SealPup elite knife and some candles.

Wow, that's alot more than I take.

I feel real good with several good sized chunks of pitchwood and a few road flares.

Road flares work GREAT! You can dry wet wood with a road flare (from personal experience).

It's funny how individual knife preferences are. I see a great military knife that gets good reviews, but I don't care for serrations for most uses and I tend to not like finger grooves. But to you, this is close to "the one" for you. I'm glad you've found something you really like...as for me, I'm still searching, and probably will for the rest of my life. It's a sickness, but it's at least one I enjoy (even if my wife doesn't).

I've been wanting to play with one of those for a while, so I might have to add this to my list. I picked up one of the new SOG Fusion Revolvers during Christmas. I didn't know they had come out with a Fusion version of it so I thought I was getting it for a steal. I haven't played with it much but the sheath is atrocious and the texture on the handle is way too aggressive. Not the Tigershark I once owned, that's for sure.

I like the fire kit, too by the way. In my car I keep some hunks of fat wood, a long tube of PJCB, 3/8" firesteel, matches, lighter, one of those little blow torch crack lighters that I confiscated, saw dust firelog starter and flares. Flares are the greatest thing going for quick firestarting: super hot, can be lit with minimal effort, burns long. I reserve them for emergencies or to start my three signal fires (I set up 3 in a row and just use the center one for my fire while leaving the other 2 ready to light if there's a plane, etc. I use the center one so that there's a fire close to both of them, but I would probably throw a flare into each one too, so that's it's fast and ready). If you have the room those sawdust firelogs can be great also. You can get them going in no time to warm yourself up by while you prepare everything for a big fire.
