Today I spent several hours helping an old friend clean out her pawn shop. She has already given me over thirty thousand dollars worth of jewelers equipment, gemstones, diamonds, and gold supplies ( even the stuff I bought was so cheap it was mostly a gift).
She closed the shop about two months ago, and has been getting the old pawns picked up and then held the auction to get rid of the unclaimed pawns. That still leaves a lot of old stuff that was for sale and boxes of junk in the back. There is also still some equipment in the work room.
We started in the very back, and went through each box and shelf as we moved forward. The nice things we put up front for a big yard sale she will have in a week or two. There are old tool bags and boxes sitting everywhere with odds and ends and loose old tools in them. Then there is the single tools sitting around on the shelves. As we would come to these items, she would say, " That is too old/dirty/bad shape to sell, you take it. Other items she would ask me if I wanted it, and if I did, she would set it in my pile. By the time we were done, my pile was huge. I brought it all home and spent a couple hours sorting the tools into buckets. I have about fifty pounds of sockets and wrenches in one bucket alone. There was a karaoke outfit, the watchmakers bench, saws, drills, belt feed screw guns, Hand tools, framing hammers, the compressor, hoses, electrical supplies, a stack of tape measures and roofing knives, some old pocket knives, an antique cleaver, Drill bits and bit sets ( Mac, Craftsman, and others)and on and on. Many of the tools are name brand - Craftsman, Snap-on, Stanly, etc.)
I took some photos of the buckets and sorted out stuff before I stowed it away. I will be giving a lot of this to folks who need tools and don't have them or can't afford them.
