Mel Gibson outs himself.

I'm not surprised, just a little sad.
I'm not surprised because I've done ridiculous things when drunk many times. Most people I know who drink too much have also.
I'm not surprised because many of the patients I helped over the years also did many ridiculous things.

Human beings do not function under general anesthesia very well. Delusional thinking is par for the course.

I like Mel Gibson- have admired him. (and yes, Western Civilization to me means there must be another Mad Max movie)
Too bad I'm not his friend- I'd help him reprogram his nonsense.

So have so many other anti-semites. Its kinda the main point isn't it? Too bad for Mel. I liked him.

Let's wait and see what comes of it. It isn't as if others haven't been under the influence and said things that they later regretted.

He's an actor/director. Who cares what his views/actions are?

Don't give them importance beyond entertainment and they have none.

It's like expecting sound financial advice from a crack-whore.

Gibson edited the film, Passion of the Christ, after prescreening it to several people, including 'Jews". He has stated publically many times that the Jews did not kill Christ, that we killed Christ, and it was Gibson's own hands seen in the movie driving the nails through.

People say stupid things. They say a lot of stupid things when they are drunk.

The whole anti-semitism issue is always blown out of proportion. If Mel gibson said offensive words against Muslims or Hindus, nobody would give a damn. At least Mel lives up to his character, the drunk Road Warrior:jerkit:

Is there a tape of these statements? That's a yes or no question, btw.

If the answer is "no", then the entire issue comes down to the word of a celebrity drunk driver versus a Deputy who was undoubtedly aware that he could say anything he wanted about that drunk driver and have it stick.

How many of us would want to be judged and convicted on nothing more than (at present) one law-enforcement officer's claims and a largely illegible PDF describing "his side" of the incident?

Just a thought.

I'll second that. Where is the tape? It is not that I would believe Mel above uttering the words; but, that such behavior would be material towards demonstrating his level of impairment, and that had such evidence been collected it would have been out in the press by now.

Exactly. His statement of explanation and apology was very well done IMO. When you're tanked every ugly thing in your subconcious comes floating to the surface on a sea of alcohol, and Munk made this point as well. I wouldn't put stock into a single thing he said, and I certainly would not label him an anti-semite. People that did based on his movie about Jesus should simply read the Bible.

That he needs help though is obvious, and I had no idea until now that he had a history of alcoholism.

At the same time I have no doubt that the Deputy is telling the truth. I'm sure that there is a tape. That his superiors intervened and pressured the guy to sanitize (i.e., lie) about the severity of the statements only validates them to me that much more. If he was just making it all up with no proof they would have ignored him had they wanted it swept under the rug.

Norm said it better than I.
Every lousy thing in your unconcious can come out, only twisted and distorted.
Booze just doesn't peel away layers and leave you stupid; it peels away layers and changes whatever is left.

So, it's not just drunk Mel talking about what was 'really on his mind' or how he 'really feels'. It was a drunken psycho with Mel's body.

There is a tape. I hope it never gets out.

Um, sorry but what the heck website was that on anyway? TMZ?!

is it even reliable? That second link was certainly not news reporting.

Yep as long as what is stated is true then poor Mel lost it . I wasn,t there so I can,t say how bad it was . Thats proabably why they were videotaping him . To protect their own butts .

It is amazing what having handcuffs on can do to a person . It pacifies some people and enrages others . It can pull some people back from the edge while giving others that none too subtle nudge which makes them lose it entirely .

Is it an excuse for Mr, Mel ? It is rare that a police officer deserves verbal abuse .

Is it reasonable to presume that some people can lose it while restrained ? He was drunk and unreasonable before the bracelets went on . He was subdued just in case he did lose it . The only difference here is it would be rare that an ordinairy citizens remarks would make the six O,clock news .

exactly. The CNN report shows a man who is deeply ashamed of himself and apologizes to the deputies (rightly so) he insulted. We can read all sorts of ulterior motives into anyone's conduct. but at the end of the day you just have to take it as it comes.

He got drunk and drove. Got nasty with the cops. spouted out some offensive language against jews.

Is he a bad guy? don't know. never met him.
