Just a link to a pic that came out pretty well after messing with the scanner.
Had to show off a little.

Les is going to kill me on these two.

As the caption reads I was young and foolish. These were two of the first handmades I purchased.
The button lock remains one of the finest knives I have ever handled. This is one of the first he made. (BTW Neither is for sale)

Have been collecting Mel's knives since the early 70's.
Lost 5 of his button locks to thieves last April.MOP,Stag,Bone ,horn, and Abalone.Cannot be replaced.
Have 5 or six of "newer Pardues. He is kind of timeless.
BTW his kid isn't bad either. The acorn does not fall far from the oak tree

Besides being an excellent knife maker, Mel is a pleasure to talk to.

Hi Gus,

Looks like even when Melvin was starting out he was making a good knife.

While I can forgive the early purchase with Jigged Bone, was that Mokume I detected on the top knife....GASP! Love the Black Lip Pearl!

There I was, Canada...at the Canadian Knifemakers Guild Show. As Bob and I finished setting up the table holder next to me shows up. Nice guy.

As I finshed with set up I introduced myself as he did in return. It was then I noticed it. Mokume all over his table. He caught me looking at it and said, "sure is pretty stuff, don't you think".

Fortunately, the RCMP Officers understood as well that Mokume should never be put on a knife. Two hours later I was out of the Police Station and back at the show. The charge was reduced to justifiable homicide.

Nice guys those Canadians!

Take Care Gus.

Les

What's wrong with mokume? What are your opinions on it? Thanks guys...

Nothing is wrong with mokume. It can be very beautiful. It is decorative pattern-welded non-ferrous metal work similar to damascus steel. Mokume is Not a blade material as it is Not steel and is soft. See your other thread for more information, Jackyl. Hope this helps.
