melon knife?

I am intrigued by a knife I recently found in a box of inherited odds & ends. I have been told it is a "Melon kinfe?" All other items in the box date 1920s to 50s.

Markings: EIG Cutlery solingen germany. It measures about 10 inches from tip to end when open. The handle is ivory looking, but don't know. Can anyone tell me how to find out more about this beautiful knife.

There was (is ?) a style of long thin folders used to inspect mellons oddly enough called mellon testers I believe.
