Melting furnace as salt pot

That would be a very expensive heat source for a too small salt pot.

The normal tube is about 4-5" OD by 24" deep, and requires a little space outside that between the heat source. The other problem with using that furnace is that corrosive salt vapors and electrical circuits make poor bedfellows.
I have converted old pottery kilns to salt pots, with OK results. You have to modify them to run on a well regulated PID, and a backup/failsafe TC mounted on the tube exterior is a good idea. As recently exampled in japan, you need to think about the possibility of the heating control failing before ever turning a pot of lava on.
