What are the benefits of being a paid member here ?
Can you post photos directly from your 'puter ?
I know that posting links to " deals" is not allowed.
What are the advantages for a non knife maker/builder/dealer ?

Well just knowing the fact that your supporting such a great site is enough for me.

just do it, you'll sleep better at night.
Not really.
If I can not post links to deals, for the paying members, items that Sparky does not sell, I'd feel like a moron to pay to be a paying member.
I refer not to things I promote or sell. Just basic links to good deals on good "schtuff", for you paying members. Knife makers or not.
I was previously chastised and am tempted to start my own forum.

There was an Idiot called forums dot Koivet dot com that suffered the same fate.

Deal spotting is not allowed on BFC because we have dealers here who pay for the privilege to do so. Why give free advertising to businesses that don't support this site in any form or fashion? There is also this thing called Google that can be utilized that allows everyone in the world to search for their own deals. If your only reason for coming to this site is to post deals then you are in the wrong place. We are not in the business of free advertising.

This pretty well spells it out and it is a non-issue-----> http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_rules_posting#faq_faq_deal_spotting

I am A member of A bunch of knife sites but this is the only one that I have paid to be on the site. These other sites I go to when I want to make my self laugh because they are nothing but A joke. you listen to the members on the other sites and they think they are king of the net. they know everything. these other sites are not worth a damm and hell would freaze over before I would give them A dime. This site has a bunch of nice people that mainly just want to help each other out. I became A member when I found some extra cash. I am on A strick buget but I found the money for this site because I think that Is is worth it. this is not the flemarket. you look at the posting and there is people talking about knifes and selling them too. I do not regret even for one secound about joining these site. the only thing I regret is not knowing about this site a long time a go. when I go to gun shows I tell every one about this site and tell them this is where it is happening at. I wish you well.

yes, as a paid member you can post pictures directly from your computer.
you can also send/receive PM's - which is a more private way to negotiate a deal with someone without giving them your email address.
On top of that, it allows you to post items for sale in the exchange -- which has been a great way for me to fund new "schtuff".

It costs money to run a site. If I was a lurker and just browsed, I would probably have remained a registered user. However, I take up my share of bandwidth posting pics and yes... the occasional tastefully presented deal spot. I am also a maker and BF has given me an excellent venue for selling my wares and a deep pool of knowledge to dip into. I make a living (kinda) with the help of this site.... so I have no problem giving back to the owners and the community.

I originally upgraded to have access to certain subforums and the PM feature. You dish out more in coffee money per week than you would for a yearly basic member fee.

Cough it up Toukie!!!!!!:p

I don't think I understand what you are trying to say here. Are you somehow implying that I try to prevent dealers from advertising here? New Graham Knives, KnifeCenter, and several other dealers all are able to advertise without any issues on this site. The only dealers that have problems are ones that are dishonest, unethical or otherwise try to get over on the very small dealer membership fee.

If you aren't a dealer, then I don't even understand why you'd bring me up.

Well Spark, think of it as part of the fun and challenge of running a great forum where even the intellectually disadvantaged are permitted to participate. You're performing a public service. :)

You are kind of acting like one too. If you do not like what you get for free, then there are many more web sites to bless your prescence with. (Vintage roll eyes smiley)

The benefits are exponential

For a non knife maker/builder/dealer you are able to post sales threads, put up pictures, use PM's for working out deals in private, and help keep the greatest knife site up and running. Recently my dealer membership expired and the only reason it's no updated is because I'm paying out of pocket for my Police Academy, but I at least have a basic membership for the sake of private messages and member only areas

I'd recommend the Gold membership to anyone, it's the best $25 you'll ever spend. It's a great way to swap knives in the exchange or sell off that pile of knives and tools that don't get used anymore. Shoot, the Exchange area is reason alone to annie up for the Gold membership. You'll make your money back in one sale of a knife from your collection.

As for deal spotting, it's a form of free advertising and even spam. It's one thing to link to the manufacturer for knife information and stats, but completely different to say "hey look at this great deal at XY company!"

I hope this helps, J.

I guess for some folks it is hard to see what the core of this community is really about.

I feel sorry for them. They are missing a great thing.

This place is one of the greatest if not the greatest gifts I have seen given to the knife community. Thankfully many of us actually appreciate, cherish it and do not mind helping defray the cost a little of the guy who bears a big burden to keep it active.
