So what do all you guys think of the rather large increses to the membership dues of the ABS and Knifemakers' Guild? I never did receive anything explaining the reasoning behind the large increases. Maybe the rates are still reasonable, but it is getting to the point where a person has to decide which organizations he/she can afford to support. At least the ABS offers a five year rate.

For those that don't know, the old ABS dues were $30.00 a year and the new rate is $50.00. The old Knifemakers' Guild rate was $10.00 and now it is $25.00.

and that is not even translated to our $ eh Keith. Every show seems to be increasing fees to come. I guess if one is keen to be in to the show early, one has to foot the bill. My concern is the fact that lots of makers do not show up for the time when Honorary members can enter the show so one might as well wait till all get admittance. Strange thing is that makers are all ready at non Guild shows that I have attended that allow early entry such as the Chicago show.

The $30 to $50 increase for the ABS is meaningless for me. Over a year, this is such a small amount that it simply doesn't matter. I'm interested in how well they're going to use the money (i.e., what they're going to do with it) but that's a separate question. in fact, I'll start a thread on the subject.

I forget the exact amount of years, but I just read from their bulletin that the Guild hadn't raised it's rate in about 25+ years.

Seems like the right amount to me. With the cost of EVERYTHING compared to 25 years ago, an increase to this amount isn't out of line. I support both them and the ABS.

I guess when you look at it like that the increases are not out of line. My problem is that I support a few organizations, and it has gotten to a point that I have to make a decision as to which ones I will be able to continue to support. Decisions, decisions.

The ABS is $60 per year. Didn't you get the memo? (the flyer printed had a typo)

I have no problems paying the membership fee, I just wish California wasn't the red-headed stepchild of the ABS. Doesn't seem like much goes on around here ABS wise.

A.B.S. Dues Collector/ Assoc. Old Dues 25.00 New Dues 30.00 If You pay for 5 yrs at once it's 125.00 Maker Dues Old Was 50.00 New Dues 60.00 If you pay for 5 yrs at once it's 250.00 Keith my coment was out of line.I'M SORRY L. Bailey

So what you guys are saying is that the new rates sent out in the renewal notice are wrong?

Oh and lb14306, you know what you can do with your smartass comment.

It appears that the renewal notification that I received had some errors and omissions in it. It did not have a 1 year Associate/Collector membership listed, so I though the 1 year regular membership for $50.00 was the new rate. The 1 year regular membership for $50.00 seems to be an error and should be $60.00. So it appears that there has been no increase in rates for membership to the ABS, so I would like to apologize for any confusion I have caused.

Keith,

Before you roll his comment up nice and tight and shove it up his you know what, he probably didn't realize that aside from this forum you mentioned supporting SEVERAL organizations and that can add up to a nice chunk of change.
