Since I'm sitting in the middle of the new Millennium's first blizzard, I've had a chance to think about the Forum and the great service you provide us. I would like to suggest an expansion of the service. I know that there is a tremendous trading volume going on between Forumites (I've been part of it recently). I wonder how many Forumites would appreciate a data file capturing ALL trading, selling transactions (like they do on the auction sites). It would be nice to know that someone you planned to send your hard earned money to had performed "X" times for other members. When selling or trading, the piece-of-mind would be worth a piece of the action, say 1% or so. I certainly would pay it to sleep better. I know we can access the "Good, Bad, and the Ugly", but that works more on an exception basis. My idea would capture ratings on ALL trades and sales done through the Forum. Sorry to be so long-winded. If you like the idea, send me a knife or something.

Good idea. I have also thought about being a escrow type service as well. The problem is it adds a good bit to the shipping on an item and the tracking would be a nightmare to set up. There are some companies out there that already offer this type of service. I will look into it a bit further.

Though I've not used the escrow svcs. available I don't quite understand why it would necessarily add additional shipping costs. If I purchase something thru an otherwise unknown seller and choose to use YOUR escrow service I send you certified funds for purchase and agreed upon shipping charges PLUS your %. When you receive funds from me you confirm same to seller and they send to me my purchase. Upon suitable predertimed inspection period you will either send seller certified funds or notify seller I declined transaction with cause upon inspection. If I declined purchase I will pay for suitable return shipping and once item is received by seller and condition verified I will be returned my purchase price. I will have incurred shipping charges and your escrow fee whether or not I complete the transaction. Though you may need bonding and perhaps some legal services to set up such a service I can well see that it could be worth you effort to offer such services. As your forum continues to grow it is only natural that some will gain a reputation for troublefree transactions while others may need a more 'at arms length' transactional protection. Just thoughts, hope you don't mind.
 
Some escrow services require that the merchandise be sent to them so they in fact can monitor both parties, hence the extra shipping.

I think The Good, Bad and Ugly forum works fine for that, I like to trade too, but I also think that too many people invloved can be more hassle than its worth. If someone has dealings with an a**hole just let it be know there.

The Good, Bad and the Ugly works fine if people use it. I have had just a couple dealings with forumites but haven't had any info on either. Both were fairly new to the forum, hence no feedback on GBU(good,bad,ugly). I agree some type of escrow would be nice for the people that haven't had any previous sales/trades or we all need to be more vigilant on posting both good and bad on the GBU(no ragging on people just simple posts whether positive or negative). Just my opinion
