Memorial Day salute

For those who gave, and those who continue to give for our freedom... thank you.

Half of these men died on a little island in the South Pacific named Peleliu. Their Sergeant who took the picture never made it to the beach. His Amtrac was hit by a Japanese Artillery or Mortar round.

Memorial Day that year, fitting tribute.

Sorry, technology makes it so easy to post a tribute and I could not help myself.

Thank you John.

I hate to invoke Hollywood...but I feel I must.

When I was growing up, I would watch "Sands of Iwo Jima" or something like that, and my Father would watch it.

My Father would say something like, "If it was only that easy." And I would be sitting there, stunned. As I had no idea, I was a kid.

Then he would tell me things and I would be more stunned.

He died when I was 13. Everything that he ever told me and described to me in detail came to vivid life watching the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. Although it was a different Theatre, it was basically what he had told me as a child.

I don't care much for Steven Spielberg's politics, but I have to say, he is a very talented Film Maker. He made dozens of stories and observations come to life in a mere 30 minutes of film in a way that no other film has.

On a beach like Peleliu, Tarawa or Normandy, you don't stay alive because of skill or bravery, you stay alive only through the Grace of God.

God bless them all. They deserve it. That's what today is all about.

No apology necessary.
