I want to dye the Waki handles. The SJTAC has some really cool striations on it.

Shucks, appropriate title, but....

Oh, wait, I have the Internet. I can see way too many "stripper" pics with very little effort.;)

Make sure to show us how they turn out once stripped and massaged.

Dude, that's getting nekked now!!! That old Rat Mastiff is a good blade. To bad the Swamp won't make that one again...:(

Waki was easy. Stripped then 240 gr belt then scotchbrite wheel then green polish compound wheel then pink. We have a whole room full of belt sanders and buffing wheels dedicated to knife making. I need to sharpen it. The NMFBM is razor sharp right now. We start on a belt and move to the Norton stones then wheels for that hi polished edge. I'm just not crazy how the handles look on satin but we'll see.

I did not mask the scales off nor do I think you need to. Leaving paint beneath them is a good thing. My fatherinlaw and I have been working with 52100 for about ten years. He studied with Master Bladesmith Ed Fowler in WY. We hand forge our blades and make our sheaths. Recently the old man is on a Loveless kick but is making some 52100 stock reduction and grinding others. It's tedious work, however when you finally do produce a nice blade it's a great feeling.

Looks like there's some nice hamon action goin' on with the Mastiff and the 'Weiler!! Sweetness!

Could you tell us a bit more of how you removed the epoxy pain?
You seem to cover the blade with some product, what was it? The handles dont need to be protectd then.
After that I asume yu used the scoth brite belt, correct?
I'm thinking of doing something like that with my BWM, thats why I ask.

Paint stripper gel from any hardware store left on for 15 minutes. Used a metal scraper to get the epoxy off and hat was pretty much it. Rinsed with water. For the satin finish Waki I used a 240 belt from Norton and I used a scotch brite wheel on one of our buffers. Micarta is impervious.

Differential heat treatment and quench lines are cool. I should polish one of these in the future to really show the hardness zones.
