Just a quick note to all active and former service personnel who might be checking this post: ( I would attempt to list the more vocal of the BFC members but I might forget someone)...in recognition for your time and service to this country... thank you very much! We should not wait for the passing of our troops to extend our gratitude, but unfortunately this happens all too often. I will reflect on friends and relatives who have gone on before me and hoist a toast to all on this most sacred of holidays.

I think this is a perfectly appropriate place for this post, and it is a deserving sentiment.

We have a trilogy of dates to give thought and thanks to all whose actions have kept us free:

Armed Forces Day serves as the official day of thanks to the men and women who serve us now.
Veteran's Day serves as the official day to praise the sacrifices and successes of our vets and the wars they fought, both hot and cold.
Memorial Day is different, in that it is the official day to remember those who gave their lives for us. It is a sacred day, if that term can be applied to a purely secular occasion, and is always bittersweet at best.

In between the BBQs, picnics, etc, we owe these young souls a moment of thankfulness and gratitude. That is the duty of our honor and loyalty for them.

Duane, it's my favorite quote, and no matter how many times I read it, it still brings a tear to my eye, and leads me to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day, be careful on the roads this weekend.
