Each year, about this time, the major department store chains trot out displays of "gift" items in the men's department.

Usually, there's several varieties of multi-purpose oddments that contain an amazing variety of features.

I was looking at one today that incorporated a 5" B&W TV, a flashing emergency light, a compass, and several other goodies, all in a sleek package that required about 10 bucks worth of batteries to operate.

I wonder how many of these things are actually purchased, and what percentage of them sit on some garage shelf for a couple of years before hitting the yard sale.

I have three very close friends who are also cops and gun/knife nuts I exchange with every year for XMas. We set a limit of $50 each. It is very interesting to come up with something new and cool every year. When anyone gets me a dumb ass gift I get pissed off since it is $5-$25 that could have gone towards quality gear.

I get one of those POS mens gifts every year from my boss or my brother in law. I'm pretty sure they're just regifting them.

I saw the same Radio/TV/Flashlight/Siren/Compass combo. Weighed about 4 pounds without the 6 C batteries..not a very convenient anything. I also like looking at all of the copies of the multitools that come out. Anything to screw people out of a buck.
Matt
