Mentioning the name of non-member makers

I was looking at a thread started in 2013 (and still active) about laminated MORA knives and noticed a mod edit to eliminate the name of a source of such knives due to that source being a non-member. Not a link - a name. Wanting to be sure to follow the rules, is there a rule against naming a source who is not a member? If so, I need to go back and edit a post I made today about a guy who makes obsidian knives. Thank you.

Can you post a link to the thread? There shouldn't be any problem with mentioning the name of a maker provided you aren't shilling for them.

EDIT: I have seen edits to remove the name of members that were banned as to not promote them in any way.

OP wanted source of sharp obsidian knives. Don't know the maker from Adam, but he reputedly makes sharp obsidian knives.

Here's a link to the thread where the edits took place. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1127132-Mora-Sweden?highlight=MORA+laminated

[A non BF Dealer] still shows some of the laminated #2s with the vegetable fiber sheaths.

Folks, let's please watch the dealer references.
Please leave the non-BF dealers out of your posts.

First, are you talking about "makers" or "dealers". The rules are different for those two classifications. Your title says "makers". Your thread, and the threads you reference, are about "dealers".

For "Makers", I concur with Jason.

As for "dealers", I note that the Mora thread is in the Traditional Forum. Gary and I follow the posting guidelines established by Elliott and Gus.

Sticky: Vendor Links, Referrals & Endorsements

In order to avoid violations of bladeforums.com's "Terms Of Service" (TOS) or our own sub-forum guidelines, please refrain from posting vendor links, referrals and/or endorsements within our threads as well as directing our members toward a particular commercial site.
("Deal & Bargain Spotting" is a violation of the TOS)

Let's keep our threads focused on the discussion of traditional knives, not vendors and their web sites.

The exception to the rule above is that you may refer other members to dealers who support bladeforums.com via a "Dealer" membership.

(The "Feedback" section remains the proper venue to report your recommendations and experiences, both good and bad, with vendors, dealers, makers etc.
You may also share links and vendor recommendations with one another privately via email or PM.)
