A friend gave it to me. Looks to have a hard life. Well it had a lanyard which I removed and noticed the handle moved some. I could move it easily 3/4”. So I gave it some pressure and it come right off. I put it back after the pick.

Any remedy for this? Will buck do anything? Any home fixes?

I appreciate the ideas all.

I hadn’t considered stacked leather.

Epoxy? What kind of epoxy? How would ya get it in the handle hole? Syringe? Handle removed or just stick it by the ricasso?

As per cost... well I don’t have epoxy other than JBweld. Or a syringe. So it’ll cost 8 bucks or so to return it. So about the same.

I am handy, I could do stacked leather. I’ll have to consider that.

Epoxy may not be the best adhesive for the flexible handle material. I replaced the handle on a mini mentor. It was my first attempt at such an endeavor, so my next try turned out better.
First trial.

Wow. On that second one; 684? Don’t suppose ya got pics of the tang on that one? How’d ya do it? Epoxy?

I’m not real versed on epoxy usage. But I do carpentry so wood is not an issue for me.

Oh the possibilities!
If this were mine I would definitely go full custom.
First, continue the narrow tang towards the ricasso to create a shoulder for the guard to rest against. Round the corners though.
Then alter the choil to make the runout/plunge line behind the end of the edge.
Brass guard, spacers, leather, stag, wood or even micarta, or combination thereof.
An alloy pommel pinned on, she would be a sweet little cutter.
Make it yours.

I’m glad you posted this because I have the same knife with the same problem! I was going to use regular epoxy but this has given me some other ideas to try, specifically the JB Weld black silicone.

I chiseled a groove for the tang and epoxied two pieces of walnut together. I ground the tang so that I could make the handle closer to the edge, as I'm not a fan of choils or large ricassos. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the process.

That helps. Thanks. What kind of epoxy do ya favor?

I just used some off-the-shelf stuff from the hardware store. It seems to work adequately, the mini mentor has been used at work without problems. Perhaps somebody else can recommend a better adhesive.

In all honesty, probably don't even need epoxy.

Something like Loctite Power Grab will probably work just fine, and remain flexible enough.

It would be interesting for the OP to call Buck Customer Service and see if it was going to be repaired/replaced under warranty. I suspect it would be.

One aspect for the knife in question, is, it’s not my favorite knife. It’s more of a leave in the car knife. A friend gave it to me and I guess it’s something he played with as a teen. If I loved the blade shape I’d likely handle it. But I’m considering sending it to buck to see what can be done. I’d just as soon not spend my time on it since I don’t love it. It isn’t in the queue to be carried.

Now, my 684 I do love and carry. So I may rehandle that as the only gripe is the rubber handle.

I'd be surprised if Buck would fix it. I'd expect they'd issue a new model of some kind to replace it, under the warranty. you're better playing with it to fix it, if ya still want it.

Hmm if buck replaced it with the current similar model, that’d suit my fancy. I ain’t in love with it.
