Mercworx Folders?

I guess if he's thinking of buying he wants opinions from us! :D

I never saw one, only read about them rarely online. There have been complaints about quality control and customer service on some of their folders. If you get to handle it before buying, you should be able to avoid that.

I'm not sure exactly what he wants since there's a question mark after his sentence.

I think it comes from ending some sentences on an uptick. Sometimes people do this when a statement is about a question, like "I wonder what you think about this." It's a middle ground between them.

Sorry for the confusion, I want to know about the knives. What are they like fit and finish wise, and how durable are they? I have a Mercworx Sniper and it is one hell of a knife, but I have never owned one of there folders and wanted to see if any of you have.

I own all three fates, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. I can't speak to their durability because mine are all collectors.

I purchased them because I like the blade design and overall looks of the knives, and also because of the high end materials used in constuction.

Overall I suspect they are very capable knives, however I do find the titanium liners are a bit flexible, not sure this would be problematic, and may well be a trade off between flexible and lightwieght titanium vs stiffer but heavier stainless steel.

The knife is comfortable in the hand, is lightweight and slim, and has a functional pocket clip. It should work well for EDC.

Blade deployment is smooth, but not as slick as my PXL or P/3G Fallknivens.

I did an "out of box" comparo between my Mercworx Lachesis and Fallkniven PXL. I'll see if I can search up the link, you may find some of my observations of interest.

If you really like the knife, you probably won't be disappointed purchasing one, but, IMO there are better folders out there for similar or even less $$.

Personally, I prefer my Fallkniven PXL, it is heavier and bulkier than the Mercworx offerings, but it is rock solid and instills a sense of confidence in the hand. All at about half the cost of of the Lachesis.

Thanks for the review and pics, I really really like the look of the knife and can only imagine what a black micarta one would look like. I might just get one now since they are discontinued and buy a strider or chrise reeve later.

esav is correct i have seen 3, all the larger ones IIRC, and the F&F did vary from pretty good to average or a bit less than, i would want to see it before i bought it, they are imho kinda high $$ for what ya get, the ones i saw all had neat grinds though, if it was me i would get something else but YMMV,

has anyone ever seen a MW fixed blade? i have not, i have heard they are pretty good........

Yes, I own a MW Sniper Chilli S30V. It is one hell of a knife, the fit and finish is ok, but I just wanted to know if the folders were better. The sniper is awesome I never regret buying it, it is one of my favorite knives of all time.

I have a Shiva, their dagger, and it's a solid, well made knife with great fit and finish. Not a user, so I can't give you a good review on it, but it's definitely well made.

I was hot to buy a shiva at one time, but based on my ownership of the folders I started to question whether the quality to price ratio was really worth it.

Sounds like the fixed blade owners are fairly pleased with Mercworx quality. Is that a fair evaluation?

Kevin

I think so, I would buy a MercWorx any day over a chris reeve fixed blade. The fit and finish of my Sniper is on par with my Extrema Ratio Col Moschin.

Yes, out of the box, no pivot adjustments, they are reasonably smooth on blade deployment, but, both my Fallknivens that I EDC are slightly smoother.

I know the Fallknivens have teflon washers, not sure what Mercworx uses.

Kevin

EDIT: I tried looking in between the liners and blade and it appears the Mercworx has fibre washers, but without taking it apart I can't be certain. I've never had much success finding additional information on these knives.

Seems like a lot of screws on the bolsters. Takes away from the looks IMO. For the price or slightly more you can get a custom.
