I have been looking for a slightly larger side opening auto for EDC. I have heard great things about the MercWorx knives so I wanted to give the Latalis a shot.

Here are a few thoughts and pictures of the knife based on the hour or less I have spent with it. My pics do not do the blade justice. It looks much better in person.

I purchased the knife from one of the big online vendors. It was discounted significantly so I thought, what the heck. I anxiously went to the post office to sign for the package today. I ripped the package open before I even got back to my truck.

Upon opening the package (a flat rate envelope) I found the box very beat up. Luckily it is not a very impressive box to begin with so it isn't a big loss.

Open the box up and there is no paperwork or anything. Just a cheap zippered pouch protecting the knife. So I am starting to get a little worried at this point.

I finally get the knife out and the knife looks very good. I love the blade shape, finish, and the carbon fiber insert. The button should be a little more pronounced in my opinion. Although I guess with it being inset like it is it avoids misfires if you don't use the lock.

There is only the slightest bit of side to side blade play but no more than some of the other autos I have used. A little tightening of the screw may eliminate even this little amount.

Opening is a little on the slow side. And not very forceful. But is sufficient. It would definitely benefit from a stronger spring IMHO.

The knife if very comfortable to hold. I have pretty large hands and it is perfect for me.

Overall I am a little disappointed with the knife based on first impressions. I do want to give it a chance so I will be carrying it for a while. I would probably return it if I had paid full price. But the discounted price is fair.

I've never been terribly impressed with MercWorx. Pricey and boring to me.

I usually love the Mercwork stuff, very well built but that one does not really do it for me.

Good review..
only thing I dont like. Is how far the blade sits back, when opened..

is the carbon fiber on yours rounded at the edges? i have the silver g10 version and its not beveled at all.

I own the three fates from Mercworx, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. One of the disappointments I had was the cheap zippered pouches they come in, for the price of the knifes you would think they would supply a pouch that speaks quality. On the other hand I have purchased other high end folders and received no pouch, just a carboard box, so maybe it's nothing to whine about.

I like the blade design on the Mercworx, it is what drew me to them in the first place.

I did a bit of a review between the Lachesis and the Fallkniven PXL in the General forum, so some of you may have seen this already. One thing that did disappoint me on the Fates series is the flex on the bottom side of the liners. If you squeeze them they flex inward and open up gaps beteen the scales and the bolsters. (see photo)

Overall I'm not exactly disappointed with purchasing these knives, but I'm not convinced they are great value for the dollar spent.

A light to moderate squeeze on the liners opens up gaps on the bolsters and scales
