Wondering if folks haven seen these $$$$ axes? Pretty axes but they don't seem like users with the über-fancy handles. The American Felling and Hudson Bay look like Council axe heads. Not sure who the source is for the double.

What can I say? Look at this:

If that's your flagship axe that you put right on center stage of the axe page...I think it's safe to assume that there's a whole lotta fluff going on here.

"The walnut and maple helve is painstakingly laminated for unprecedented strength..."

Give me a break, that's a lie. "Unprecedented strength," riiiigght...

ETA: I'll stop now. Must be feeling grouchy.

Also doesn't this axe head:

Look completely different from this one: Supposed to be the same axe:

The first one looks like my Snow & Neally chinese double.

Free shipping though :D

IN THAT CASE!! Ha ha...

Looks like they've taken it a step further than some others...not only are they not revealing the sources for their axes, they're not even telling you which one you'll get!

They are in Whitefish, MT. If you've been there, you now understand what we're dealing with here.

Yeah I love the huge gaps. I can put survival items in there! :D

Well I do have a love for any and all axes, these are interesting no doubt. I get a feel for what Memphis is saying, though I will have to to get to a pc for a real good look. What's the $$$ damage?

i've experimented with Walnut as handle material for axes and hatchets and hammers. it is prone to breaking same could be said for Ash. iffy wood for striking tools .
i made a handle for a Norlund Hudson Bay hatchet with a Black Walnut straight grain rived and split from billets by me for the purpose. still in one piece, i could not in all honesty trust the wood to hold up under continuous work.

i have several other axes with Black Walnut wood handles, one is a nice Plumb single bit Cruiser. if i could use it hard for a year in the timber i might be able to say different

buzz

Ash should be pretty ok under impact--just not as good as hickory.

It's a piece of furniture, nothing more. That swell is atrocious. The laminations in the haft are 90° opposed to alignment with the head. It's designed for the yuppies and Hollywooders who have descended on Whitefish. The good news it that none of them will be able to swing it hard enough to break the crappy haft.
