Merlin questions...!

Hello fellow "spydie" addicts,

Well, Sal Glesser was recently so kind as to enlighten me as to the changes that the Harpy model has under gone over the years, but I've just thought of yet another pesky quetion (or two) to ask!

For starters, why such (relative) little PR for the Merlin model?

It does not appear on the Spyderco web site, nor on that of most online dealers, hence its already hard enough as is to find out about it (indeed I'd not have heard of it were it not for this wonderful forum).

Is it, by chance, due to the fact that the Merlin is the "poor cousin" (in as much as one dare say that of a Spyderco folder) to the Harpy?

There have been approx. 6 postings, over the last 100 days, that deal in one way or another with the Merlin, hence I'm aware of the subtle changes between the '98 and '99 model.

Yet, aside from the year, how else does one differentiate the two designation wise?

I may, since my local cutlery stores don't carry the full line of Spyderco's (or charge a overtly inflated price), very well end up ordering said Merlin via the net, hence it'd be nice if I could (possibly) help out that hapless customer service agent in doubt (ergo assure I end up with a '99 and not '98 model).

And...

Last, but not least, where can one get a good deal one the '99 model? It seems relative few online dealers/wholesellers stock the Merlin period.

James Mattis,

Its good to hear that you rectified that "sin of omission" in as much as the Merlin is concerned!

Michael - Ther Merlin is being re-introduced. In fact, it was just in the past few months that they have been available. The are not on the Web site, or anywhere else because our web site is behind in posting.

The new version ('99) has the left/right metal clip that is on the current Endura and
Delica. That is the easiest way to spot the difference.

Sal Glesser,

Well, for starters, thank you for the prompt response & thank you for setting me straight!

I'm glad to hear that the Merlin is being re-introduced & that said model is soon to receive more notoriety (ergo be displayed on the Spyderco web site).

Keep up the good work at Spyderco!
