I had to have had one of the best Christmases. We had it this evening with the kids as they all go to their other side tomorrow.
When the Grandson opened his and pulled out the 112, he kind of looked at his Dad as if may I really keep it. He just stared at it a few minutes and then his mom told him to open it up and take it out for use to see.
His eyes lit up a little more as the shiny brass came out of the new sheath that I managed to scrounge up out of the pile.
He was still unsure about all of it, so I began the lesson about the dash after the 112 and how I restored this old knife to look like it does, and then that the dash meant year 1992, the year he was born.
At that he really brightened up and couldn't believe it was 15 years old. Then his Dad and Mom really got interested when I explained the year codes and that knife's age.
What really makes all of this special, is that he was born with an autism that was later diagnosed with aspbergers (sp) syndrome. He didn't speak clearly untill he was 7 or 8, and has been a severe trial for his parents.
While still being socially a few years younger than his age, he has come a long way and is a fine polite young man. The Marlin .22 and the 112 will now add to his realization that he has been given more responsibility and a new challenge to achieve.
No doubt he will accomplist this latest life challenge.
As for the responlibility part of all of this. His Dad was a Huey and then Blackhawk pilot in the Army. Top in his class in every thing he did. Was in the first Desert Storm.
Another Merry Christmas to all of you,,,Mine sure was!!!
