I want to wish all on this forum a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I'm eagerly awaiting word (pictures?) of the Busse Folder. I know good things take time, but this is the age of Instant Gratification.

Merry Christmas, and watch your six.

I've been asking the same question for months. I'd at least like some specs on the thing. Size, blade and lock configuration, clip style, handle material, etc. Some info, any info, PLEASE!!!

This topic comes up every month or two.

According to an older thread I found using the search function, a prototype was originally supposed to debut at the 2000 Blade show. Then the E-Handle project got in the way. A later thread indicated that fall 2000 was a more likely timeframe.

By August, the folder project was officially on the "back burner." (See this thread.)

By September, the official word was that the folder prototype would debut at the SHOT show in February '01.

In November, we were told that
Jerry will be posting something about the folder project soon!!!!

Yeah, I'm getting a little anxious too. But at this point, I'll just wait patiently and believe nothing until I see it. We all know that Busse Combat Knife Co. is under a lot of stress from problems with suppliers, shop renovations, special military orders, and excess demand. Perhaps it would suit us all best to pretend that we'd never heard about the Busse folder. Then we can be pleasantly surprised when the project does in fact make it to production stage.

....uh... OK, I'll go with that. So which folder do you recommend if I want to buy one now? What is out there that approaches Busse "nuclear toughness?"

Great, thanks. Is a knife bought from Strider going to be "more knife" than a Buck Strider? I'll look around a bit.

There are many excellentfolders out there, to be sure. But I want that Busse!! I can't stand this suspense

Maybe if we all chant loud enough, FOLDER! FOLDER! FOLDER! someone will hear our pleas. I'm anxious to see this myself and will probably buy one if they're not too expensive.

I'm with you, fountainman, but it may be that good knives, like good beer or wine, take time.

I got to play with a Sebenza at a recent arms show. Impressive. Didn't run into a Buck Strider, but I have a hunch it will look like a brick next to the Sebenza. I want something comfortable in the pocket of my Carhartts.

Daughter wants to get her boyfriend a folder, but is thinking $25-30. I think any of the reasonably durable Spyderco knives will be more than that. Maybe I'll ju$t have to $how mercy and a$$i$t her a bit...

Sounds like you're pretty generous Lane, encouraging your daughter's boyfriend like that.

If you're looking for a temporary knife fix that just might be lasting, check out the SERE 2000. I can't seem to keep that one out of my pocket. Got my old man one for his birthday. He called me up yesterday thrilled to death.

The boyfriend is a pretty good kid. Actually, being my daughter's boyfriend is probably something of a challenge at times...

I went to Knifecenter, saw that a line of SERE knives has been discontinued, then saw SERE 2000 (or was that 2001?) for about $125.

I'm not sure I want to help Daughter out that much, but he needs something for his pocket. He seems attracted to my daughter's bright pink Delica, because it would be hard to lose. I showed how the hinge is getting loose, told him about my less than ideal experience with a (bright yellow) Spyderco Rescue.

Those inexpensive "plastic" knives just don't hold up (though I've had a little Blackjack Lightweight Folding Mamba for a while). The bright color and low cost make sense for people who tend to lay 'em down, but the ones with metal in more than just the blade are more durable. The Spyderco Mariner is the same knife as the Rescue, except for material; it would have lasted me longer.

While we're awaiting the Busse Super-Folder, I'll look around for a low cost and reasonably durable/pocketable folder for a guy who sometimes misplaces things. Maybe I can find something slightly used at a show, and just paint it dayglo orange...

Lane, you better take another look at the AL MAR SERE 2000. The latest Tactical Knives has a review on it. I have one and it is all the knife I would ever need in a folder. For a lot less then the Busse will probably be too.
I KNOW, if ya just godda have a Busse then ya just godda have one.

Into the book about 150 pages so far!

MEMO TO JERRY:

Please note that members have now resorted to openly discussing Buck, Reeve, Spyderco and SOG folders on your forum. Only you can stop the insanity. Please hurry.

Oh... and if ya like big tough folders with a combat theme, there's always DDR's Mad Max. The knife will cost you close to six Benjamins, but it should satiate your appetite quite nicely.

Good call on that one, Wulf. The Mad Max is impressive, indeed.

LOL!

Right on, Bronco! I concur. Only Jerry can stop the madness -- by releasing HIS folder!

In the cheap folder dept.: I just got a Smoky Mtn. Knife Works catalog. I see some CRKT folders at discount prices. But what's this AUS6M steel? What really shocked me was the illustrated knives that looked like aluminum and were described as having cast zinc handles.

I know CRKT is not high end, but I thought they did better than pot metal handles.

That SERE 2000 might be too nice for Boyfriend. Might be a good knife for ME...

Actually, Boyfriend tends to be a bit scattered (rude little Daughter made remarks about "two ADD kids taking things apart," when he and I opened up his laptop), so maybe I should just buy a handful of those bright orange Bucklites I see marked "closeouts" in the SMKW catalog.

On folders in general (and winding my way back to the original topic of this thread), I judged the larger Sebenza to be "pocketable" for me. That's in my Carhartt work pants. In a suit, I'd select the smaller Sebenza. The Buck Strider seems to be rather large and angular for a pocket knife. If Jerry is listening, I sure hope the Busse folder, when it comes out, is "nuclear tough," without being the size of Fatman or Little Boy. I am not a B-29, and I want it to be comfortable to carry.

I think we did folder blade length to death somewhere else. I often carry a 3 incher, but 3.5" is a really nice size.

What else should the Busse SuperFolder have? A wire-cutting notch, so you can close it and shear fence wire? A hard punch on the back for rescue work? Uh oh, Red Alert! I'm getting carried away, can't help it ..... now I want a BUSSE MULTI-TOOL!!!
biggrin.gif

Strider's custom folder is available for around $350. And it's a beast...
