Hey all,
I don't get to spend as much time hanging out here as much as I would like. I am usually behind on work and behind on emails or other comm's and can literally spend hours chatting it up if I let myself. If you know me, you know what I mean.
I tend to dwell on things a lot during my time leather working, it's easy to get lost in thought, positive, negative, whatever the days brings, but I am always thinking about how blessed I am to have such a great community of like minded knife enthusiasts that I get to spend my days servicing. Some of you may know this already, but back in 2007/2008 was when I started making more sheaths and holsters than I was making knives, it was a transitional period in my hobby. After the 2008 Presidential election I was buried in holster orders and it pulled me away from the knife crowd for a while. When our daughter was born in October of 2013 we had 4 weeks notice from the time we were chosen by her birth mother to the day she was born. I shut down my "hobby business" in order to focus on family, my IT career and bringing home our new addition to the family. Fast forward to the end of 2014 and I decided to get the leather working going again but I decided to make a choice to only focus on sheath and no longer take holster orders. The biggest reason was because the knife community is awesome, close knit, laid back, passionate and friendly. Who would have known just 4 years later, almost to the day, I would walk away from my career to make sheaths full time and be home more to take care of my family.
Speaking of Blessed, I also think the Carothers community in particular, myself included because I buy them all if I get a post up in time
)), are lucky to have some of the best craftsman and women in the business catering directly to us. Nate, Jo and the crew are making the best, most technically astute, reality engineered knives in the business. Not only that we have an amazing group of craftsman who are active in the community putting out some of the best leather and kydex sheaths I've seen anywhere, guys making scales that rival CNC machines.. you name it. I'm not going to name drop because I don't want to risk forgetting anyone but we all know who they are. I have been in the knife world a long time, long enough to remember Nathan selling center marking jigs he developed before he was making knives (yeah, they were cool), and this is the only place I will say that drinking the CoolAid means you are likely at the top of the knowledge spectrum in the knife world, you demand excellence for your hard earned money and know where to come to get it.
Kudo's to the CPK team for building an amazing knife family.
Okay all that said, I want to give back. No strings attached.
I'm going to give away TWO of my SDFK sheaths.
The first winner will receive one of my SDFK sheaths their choice of color, along with a Leather Modular Drop Loop Attachment, a $200 value.
The second winner will receive one of my SDFK sheaths in their choice of color and I will include a Tek-Lok, a $165 value.
I will ship these for free to US addresses and cover up to $25 for International customers, the winner would be responsible for the difference.
- I want this to be accessible to as many people as possible, but you must own an SDFK. All you have to do to enter is take a picture of your SDFK held in front of your computer or device screen showing THIS POST in in the background.
- If you cannot post a picture go ahead and post your entry reply on the thread, then email your photo with your post number in the subject line to chad@pirtlemade.com
- If you have more than one SDFK you are able to make a separate post/entry for each knife, but you can only win once.
- I will let this run for one week and close it to new entries on Tuesday January 3rd at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
- I am going old school for the drawing. Each valid post number will be written on a card and I will have my daughter draw four numbers, the 3rd and 4th as backup in case the first two are invalid for any reason (example someone with multiple SDFK's wins twice). I will post a picture of the 4 drawn numbers here.
- I would encourage ANYONE who has an SDFK to enter, even sheath makers and CPK employees. Ideally I'd like these to the CPK faithful and forum supporters. With that in mind please don't advertise this giveaway outside of this forum.
