I jumped on one of the recent sales and picked up a BK4. It was on my Christmas list, but the price was too good to pass up.

When I talked to the wife late this afternoon she said there was a big box with my name on it! When I got home it was the 4!!!!

Sun was going down, but I got out and took a few swipes with it at some downed limbs we have around. Did a little draw knife feathering.

A quick few whacks at the dead stump...

It's awfully fun! I can't wait to get out and really use it.

(Unfortunately I didn't get it from Dex. He hadn't yet mentioned that he could get the great sale prices as well. Next time I'll contact him before I order. Fortunately it's still a sweet blade!!!!)

I have no idea of how I'll sharpen it when the time comes, but I'll cross that bridge on that day.

edit: I guess I better remember to wrap it up closer to Christmas so it can sit under the tree for at least a few hours!

Congrats man. I've been enjoying the heck outta mine. Really cool and unique blade.

Grats on the new steel!

Sharpening recurve style blades is easy ;) just do it off of a rounded surface (I use a piece of dowel draped in a leather scrap to convex nicely).

Congrats on the new blade man!

The 4 is awesome.

And you can use regular stone to sharpen recurves. It's just a little tricker but works fine. But the best way is a curved stone or the dowel method that TBL mentioned. Just wrap sand paper over it if you need to actually sharpen it.

A work sharp or other small belt sander works great too. That's actually the method I use now for recurves.

Thanks y'all. It sure was a fun blade to hold and play with - even if it was only a few minutes tonight. Looking forward to getting it some real use....Maybe I could chop down a Christmas tree for the family...

I think I'm getting a 4 for Christmas too!;)

Sharpening won't be a problem if you've got a set of croc sticks. I have a Lansky set in medium and fine that I picked up at Academy a few years ago for not much. I don't use the base much at all. I just use the ceramic rods and free hand it. If you want to go really low cost, look for the ceramic sharpening rods on the big river.

still my fav Becker...

though i'm hoping a Reiny by Xmas :D

Bladite, If you get a Reinhardt by Christmas I'll be knocking on your door by New Year's Eve! :D
