I received this email from Ram this morning. Howard Wallace suggested that it be shared with the forum and I heartily agree. Howard, Yvsa, Munk and I are working out the details for raising money to help him through school. You guys have helped tremendously and are to be commended!

Thanks for your kind reply and encouragement.It gives me more hope and confident to get success in my aim to be doctor-and help my country's diseases people -basically countryside village people.They are loosing thier life even minor diseases like:Cholera,Jaundice,Encephalitis(is a diseases transfer by mosquito bite) due to lack of medicine and doctor.
Still there is 3 years more to finish my course.Hope I will get success on it.
Well,as I wrote in Last email too.Uncle Bill was everything for me.The success that I get so far and to come to this step of life,all credit goes to him.He met my family and me in Nepal in the KHUKURI factory.Still I can remeber the party that he gave in Factory and I was his guide.Because no one can speak english there.Honestly to say,All my relative and family are illeterate even they can't read and write .Even my father too.
Not only he helped me to collect my tuition fee and living expenses but also used to me suggestions,taught life Philosophy and alwyas remind me NOT TO FORGET THOSE POOR AND DISEASES PEOPLE OF MY VILLAGE AND COUNTRYSIDE.Do not run after money after becoming doctor.Money is only means of living.We born naked and has to leave this world naked.Work is worship.It is the key to open the door of heave or hel.
Time and again,he used to tell me:God leaves on the poor and needy people.If you want to make your God happy,So love and help them .
Yah....so on there are many more...more later.

Dear Respected Steve,Heartly because of your 1000$ bless,I am able to continue this semester and similarly last semester 1212$.
Because of God bless,for fooding I am maniging.But I am having trouble to pay my room rent.Every month I have to pay around 200$.If not pay within month got to pay fine each day's.In february too, I paid 8$ fine.If it do not disturb and bother please do me favor to collect money for my room rent fee.
I will never forget your each and every help.And do pray to the God for your good and happy health.Now this is my way to pay back your help.AFter becoming Dr.......

When I read the ALL CAPS part of Bill's advice to Ram I start to choke up.

Maybe one reason it hits me hard is because I remember when me and a buddy were trecking backcountry Nepal in the late 70's. When we approached some of the villages sick people would crowd around asking for help. All kinds of stuff far beyond our rudimentary skills and pitiful first aid kit. Infected eye sockets, broken bones, infants with fevers, etc. All we had was a tube of neosporin and some asparin. Maybe some other stuff but not much. I still remember those folks.

I would also like to pledge my assistance. I love the idea of helping someone with such a worthwhile goal. It was great advice Uncle Bill had for Ram. He sounds like he listened well to Uncle Bill. That leads to hope for others in his region someday.

Are they teaching in English in Latvia at the school Ram is enrolled in? or?

Thanks for the post, Steve; I always follow Ram's education with interest. I'd like to ask Dan Koster to have my Fox's Folly sent to you when it arrives so it can be part of a raffle or other fund raising endeavor that you guys come up with.

Just an idea, buy maybe a MONSTER RAFFLE with sharp, pointy donations sent in by forumites to the committee could assure he's in school for 3 more years, and has all the books he needs... :D

Great idea!
but I'm thinking that maybe it's better to spread it out.
Some people don't have the extra$ every week.
A semi-regular smaller raffle might bring in more $ in the long run.

So are you going to coordinate sending donations from the Cantina, or should we send them directly to Ram? I have no idea of the best way to get money to Latvia or what sort of issues might be involved.

You can send them to me and I will accumulate them. Then I do an international wire transfer to his bank. You can paypal to sferguson2@triad.rr.com or email me for my address. If you paypal, please put your forum name on it, so I'll know who it's from.
