So i realized i messed up my zt0620 (tanto version in case you didn't want to google it) and i realized i concaved the blade. Im not sure how i did but its noticeable and bothers me a lot. Any way to fix it? I seem to only sharpen the middle of the edge and barely the beginning and where it meets the secondary point. Same with the second edge, not as bad but still have the same issue. I have no problem with other tantos, just this one

Do you sharpen free hand? You have to be careful with the beginning of the edge as it is easy to make it uneven. Also the beginning of the edge is easy to get scuffy if you barely sharpen it. What I do is hold the blade in angle and run it on the stone without moving towards the tip for the beginning of the blade to get sharpened and then swipe for the tip. Sometimes I might not swipe at all and do the belly separately. I dont know if that makes any sense, I just woke up.

Yes i sharpen freehand and I think i understand. Hold the blade slightly diagonal and sharpen it like that? If youre talking about that then I've seen it done before and it helps a lot. But i think youre right, sometimes i dont always start at the very end of the blade, maybe a few millimeters and i can see if that's where my problem is

It seems to make the edge a little bit smoother if I move it in little bit of ”slicy” motion but it could just be my personal way of sharpening.. so hard to explain something that is just in your muscle memory :)
If nothing helps you could also send it for someone who sharpens knives here for little fee. Plenty of them here.

You know ZT offers a free sharpening service? I would send it back to them, ask them to sharpen it, and if possible straighten the edge when they do it.

What exactly do you use to sharpen on? (And how?)

My .02, the easiest way to fix "profile issues" is to grind at a very high angle to establish a new profile, then resharpen. Doing it this way... it's actually not all that difficult (although practice on a "junk" knife first)... o_O

I would be hesitant to send it back to ZT for a "fix"... unless you make it clear what you want... they'll usually just resharpen the edge "as is". However, unless things have changed... if the knife is still being made, I think they'll replace the blade for $25 or $30???... might look into that, if it really is an issue for you... (since the fix will remove a bit of metal).

Ground this slight recurve into my tanto when I was learning to sharpen. Ruined the edge, had to get it redone professionally. Since I just touch it up freehand on my Sharpmaker rods it is not an issue.
