Hi All,

I've been trying to find a messenger bag to suit me. I would like one to carry my notebook computer (14.1" screen) but not necessarily all the time. I've tried several Timbuk2 models (Blogger, Commute, Outtawhack, Messenger) and even though they were very well made, I just didn't like them for one reason or another.
I've been looking seriously at the Waterfield bags, and I also like the Tom Bihn "Ego". I definitely want one made of material that pet hair does not stick all over, like the one I'm using now. The Timbuk2 ballistic nylon performed admirably in that regard.
Any suggestions?

i've worked for some time as a bike messenger, so im probably the most qualified to answer this. in terms of comfort, bagaboo is the best. in terms of utility, chrome is the best. in terms of cost, timbuk2 is the best. i've got a few friends that use chrome's messenger packs instead of their messenger bags. they seem to be great. i'll have to borrow one to get a feel for it though. i would highly recommend a chrome. i've had one in use for years. my bagaboo doesnt get used much, but thats because its too big for be used other than grocery shopping. timbuk2's are cheap and still extremely durable

with either of those, you cant go wrong

im used to use my chrome for commuting. but now i use my camelbak asymetrix 30. the downside of my chrome metropolis is that it sits so high on my back that with it on and looking over the shoulder limits my line of sight while on the bike. for class, the metropolis is perfect

Wow, thanks for the input. I hope I don't come off too much as just a poser who is not worthy to carry a real messenger bag. Even though I love to ride, it is something I do during my free time, for fun, with all the fancy clothes and gear. You guys define hardcore, rock on.
That being said, it's nice to know that the Chrome bags have been real world tested. I like the buckles on the sling straps! I've noticed that the Timbuk2 messengers have holes on the sides where the flaps fold over and it looks like water would pour in if you ever got caught in a downpour. I think Chrome bags have a liner that would eliminate that.

the buckle first attracted me to the bags. but as i read reviews and talked with folks who had them and it seemed like the right choice

both now are engineered to prevent water from getting it with an oversized flap. both are waterproof treated fabrics, so thats no problem. if you're looking for a fully waterproof bag, your choice is probably chrome's roll-top bags. check them out.

and dont worry about the look. we're used to it. well, im no messenger anymore, but i still ride my fixies and use my bags and locks and knickers. if you want real world testing, you have a messenger do it. bags, bikes, paper products, locks, pants
