Hey guys,

I need to purchase a new messanger style bag. No real requirements, currently carry a nice, but beat up buxton but looking to replace with something nicer.

Any pics of yours would also be appreicated!

What price range are you looking at? Anything in particular you need with it?

Are you actually riding a bike with it? If so, Crumpler and Chrome make really good and durable bags. I have a Crumpler Complete Seed and it's pretty great. Real messenger bags that are made for riding aren't as good for walking though, they're made to be worn on your back while bent over pedaling.
Crumpler also makes some non-biking bags, I'm sure they're good too.

Sorry guys, I should have been more specific. I guess a messanger bag isnt really what I'm looking for, I wont be riding, just walking. Basically I carry it to and from work but don't like the look and feel of many typical laptop/briefcase type bags. I carry a small netbook, anything else I need for work, blackberry, ipod, small first aid kit, backup knives, you get the idea...

Chrome is definitely worth a look. Well-made with quality materials in the USA, well-designed, and waterproof too. Been carrying mine for more than a year now with not a single issue or complaint. Don't bother with cheap junk like ___.

Many friends with Chrome- can't go wrong there. I personally got a crumpler for Christmas- dreadful embarrassment I believe (the name of the bag). Great bag- at first was sad that I didn't have an excuse to get a maxpedition, but actually thought it through with it's pockets and it works wonderfully.

I'm a Timbuk2 fan. I've had a "made in SF" waxed canvas messenger for a couple of years now.

I got my wife a RELoad bag a year ago.

RELoad are all hand made in the USA and some of the Timbuk2s still are.

chrome, timbuk2, manhattan portage are nice. timbuk2 being the cheapest option, but still good. chrome being one of the more expensive options but being really comfy and utilitarian *on* the bicycle.

i always feel like chromes "ride" better on a bike but don't feel right when i'm walking. and timbuk2's feel better when walking but don't ride as well.

for custom options, bailey works, reload, are great, ride well, and have solid reputations.

how about some shameless advertising?

Look at maxpedition bags. They have a couple of different sizes, which also have places you put holsters for guns, clips, knives, etc. Really well built. Heavy duty zippers etc.

I walk with my Chrome Metropolis a lot, and fairly long distances with heavy loads too. I also ride with it a lot, and while it certainly is better when riding once you get over the initial discomfort of humping heavy loads on one shoulder it is quite cozy and easy to carry. It's my #1 choice of a daily bag, wheels or not.
