Really nice guy, And he will sit and talk with you forever. Bought a huge tanto (curved Japanese style point not angled American style point) $50 bucks! If you look at the Knives 95 book in the gallery section there is a tanto style blade with no handle scales, Made to be cord wrapped. I liked this blade and was going to take a xerox of the pic and ask John if he still made the blade. I never got around to making a copy, I find his table at the show and what luck? he has a similar blade, larger (about 12" long 1.25" wide .250 thick ) with a skeleton handle for sale! I like this pattern even better! and the price? $49.95! Jackpot! He wasn't completely sure what kind of steel it was, he was pretty sure it was 5160, He said it was made from old bar stock he had bought about 10 years ago and he was using a lot of 5160 at the time. Made my day!
Over all the show was really good, Mt some makers I have been talking to over the internet for some time like A.T. Barr, Don Cowles. One trend I noticed, At least half a dozen makers were making William Scagel style blades. One thing that had me astounded was a whole bunch of retail sellers selling automatics, Lots of microtech, protech, randal king, autos. I thought these were illegal in Michigan.
Along with the knife show was an antique gun show, Big plus in my opinion. I managed to kill another hour and a half.
