Hi everybody. I'm a balisong newbie and I recently purchased a pacific style trainer from Knifezilla. I needed a cheapie to test the waters(Canadian) and I didn't really want to replace the pins of a Jaguar 2 hours after using it.

Now the knife itself isn't that bad, but the back of my hand is red and cracked. At first it was just red so I thought it was from manipulation. A day later the skin was cracking and my wrist was red.
WTF??? It goes nowhere near my wrist. Then, as I was checking out my hand I noticed flecks of metal dust on my palm. The balisong must've been shooting the dust all over the place.

Has anyone ever had this allergy problem? I guess I need to buy a Benchmade soon cause I sure as hell don't want to flip this one.

Yeah, I did a search on titanium allergies, and Ti is commonly used in jewelry for people who are allergic. :D to that.

I already miss flipping.

I don't want to say you're getting the redness from the balisong handles, since it could be something unrelated. However, the most commonly used Titanium is four percent Vanadium (and six per cent Aluminum), and if I recall correctly, a few knife makers do have problems with Vanadium allergies.

Yeah Ti is real healthy for ya as long as you don't ming the sight of blood. One big difference btw the pacific style cheapies and the BM's is that BM can be sharpened

I think it's too much of a coincidence to be anything but the balisong. I hope the Ti works out.

Mykl: Don't worry, I see red in my future. :)

it can also be some sort of 'paint' or something on top of the handles, to make it look more shiny, and as you manipulate it, the 'paint' flacks off in tiny little pieces, which get stuck in your skin, and irritate. or, it's possibly both, if it spread down to your waist...
but i had this little cheapie once, and after a while, i saw that the handles were more red'ish (cobber?), there was some sliver 'paint'-alike on top of it for some reason, and it came easily of after some flippin'. i didn't get red and all on my hands, but i saw that there were tine pieces of this metal 'paint' in my skin, which took forever to remove (washing didn't help much...).
why don't you go see a doctor, and hear what he/she has to say?
