Hello everyone,
From what I gather, after reading some of the many posts here,
are their really metal blades that excell in push cutting but are not good for slicing? If so, what could be a good steel for a Korambit knife? Looks like this kind of knife is made only for slicing.
Thanks in advance for all your input. Peacock:confused:

Certain blade types are better at each task. A recurve is better for slicing, whereas a flat edge (e.x. tanto blade) is better for push cutting. The edge makes a difference too. If you sharpen your knife to a very fine edge, it's better suited for push cutting. But if you leave very minute teeth in the edge, it's better suited for slicing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

peacock, welcome to Bladeforums!

At the top of each page, you can find TUTORIALS / FAQs which includes BladeForums.com Knife FAQs, for example:

FAQ: Plain vs. Serrated Edges by Joe Talmadge
FAQ: Knife Sharpening by Joe Talmadge

That should get you started off right! :D

The hype about the inherent cutting ability of a steel is just that - hype. A knife will cut a certain way because of the shape and the quality of the sharpening. You chose the steel because of other aspects like corrosion resistance, wear resistance, impact toughness and so on.
