metal boot clip attachment to leather sheath?

After making a few Kydex sheaths, I have started with leather. The first one I made wasn't all that difficult and actually seems to be good enough. Making a one that looks good might be a problem though.

So...
I'd sure appreciate any advice on how to best attach a metal boot clip (or metal belt clip for that matter) to a leather sheath? These are stainless from Texas Knife Makers (I think).
Thanks.

Most belt clips I've seen on leather sheaths have an extra fold of metal that goes thru a slot in an extra back panel. It's just glued in and I guess the stitching helps hold it in also.

You need to cut two slots into the back panel of the sheath. One for the top of the clip and one for the bend that forms the retainer on the bottom portion. I use a special slot punch, but you can cut them by hand if you are carefull. You need to put in an extra panel of leather between the clip and the blade. If you do not the clip will damage the blades finish. To hold it in place you can put in a rivet (using the hole provided in the clip) or just use contact cement and good stitching.

Here is a photo of a boot knife I just finished the sheath for a few days ago. It should give some idea of the construction.

On the ones I make with a clip, I simply use an extra piece of leather and carefully cut the two slots necessary for the clip, install the clip and then hand stitch the clipped leather to the back of the sheath (I use a bit of leather glue to keep it in place).
