Some of you may remember in my very first post here at BladeForums.Com that I mentioned that I was hopefully going to be taking a knife-making course this winter.
Well, it seems as though the course instructor will NOT be able to follow through with the seminar as planned due to the fact that he'll be working up in Northern Saskatchewan til early 2001.
I spoke to his father and it seems as though there MIGHT be a course offered when he returns, but he couldn't be sure when exactly that would be.
Frustrated, I spent most of the day calling EVERY SINGLE person here in Regina who MIGHT know of an alternative course that I would be able to take, or at the very least, point me in the right direction. Humbled and very disappointed with the complete lack of success, I was just about to give up, UNTIL I made my very last phone call of the evening!
I spoke to a Mr. Dave Wilkes of Wilkes Blades (a small home-operated knife making business here in Regina). I introduced myself and explained to the gentleman what exactly I was looking for. We talked for over an hour, during which time he invited me to see his workshop and offered to teach me the basics of knife-making!!!!!!!! What a woderful stroke of fortune! As past-president of the Saskatchewan Knife-makers Club, he also invited me to their next meeting to meet some of the other local blade-enthusiasts from the area!
I simply couldn't believe what I was hearing .... and I can't even begin to tell you all how terribly excited I am! Mr. Wilkes and I are going to get together sometime next week when our schedules allow, and then ....... my journey into the realm of knife-making begins!
I just wanted to share this great news with everyone here at BladeForums, and to THANK-YOU ALL FOR YOUR AMAZING FRIENDHIP AND SUPPORT THAT YOU HAVE ALL PROVIDED ME WITH SINCE I HAVE ARRIVED! I hope I can count on your advice and guidance throughout my knife-making adventures!
DAMN ..... this is going to be great!
