It is recently learnt that metal nanocrystals may be commercially produced in the near future to make it cost effective.
Right now, apparently it costs about $100 to produce a pound of this stuff.

In future it is hoped that the cost will be reduced to $1 per pound.
I was thinking that if metal nanocrystals can be commercially viable, it may alter the face the knife industry.

Metal nanocrystals are known for its extreme wear resistance and its super strength. Scientist said that nanocrystals of various metals are found to be 100, 200 and 300 per cent stronger than the same material in bulk form.

Apparently, it is scientifically possible nanocrystals of steels, titanium alloys, nickel and tungsten. Some of these materials are already being widely used in making of knives.

I was thinking the implications of the super properties of nanocrystals, if it becomes reality in the near future, would be nothing short of astounding for new knives.

Right now, nanocrystals are only carried out in labs and still in the experimental stage.

Since some knifemakers are always exploring and researching new materials for knives, I was wondering if any of them have already heard of this new kind of material called metal nanocrystals.

Don't know of any companies. However, I have a large interest in nano materials and I for one will be keeping my eyes open for a viable material. Or a nano machine to build it.
