Metal plane?

I recently read about a tool the Japanese bladesmths used to use that was similar to a wood plane but was used for metal, essentially for planing the flats of blades. This was mentioned in Jim Hrisoulas' book "The Complete Bladesmith". Has anyone heard of this tool or know where you could find one? -Guy Thomas

I believe its called a Sen, Don Fogg makes these to shave his swords down. There is probably a "how-to" on his web page

Thanks Kisu, I'll check out his site and perhaps e-mail him. For that matter I could e-mail Jim Hrisoulas also!-Guy Thomas

Tom,
actually some companies still do it on new machinery , Okuma precision scrapes the ways of their high end CNC equipment.

Just thought I'd share that semi-useless tidbit of info
