Metal Polish?

I recently acquired a box of old tarnished and rusted Case and Ka Bar knives. I want to restore these knives and am looking for recommendations for your favorite metal polish and most effective way to apply it. (steel wool, cloth, ect) Any help is appriciated. Thanks

I have had good luck with Flitz Metal Polish.

I have applied with mostly soft rags. I had a gun barrel that was rusted and slightly pitted that I used steel wool and the Flitz with great resluts. I have also used Kroil penetratinbg oil on some rusted parts with steel wool with great success.
 
Using a cotton polishing wheel on a bench grinder would be my recommendation. When doing that you can use the same stick of green compound you strop with.
