At some point in my near future I am going to make a knive. I have designed the knife on AutoCAD 2000, but lack the tools required at this time to make the knife. However, I have an idea for a blade finish that I would like to pursue. I was wondering if any knife makers would be willing to send me some small (about 1" square) scraps of different types of non-stainless steel. Interested in a variety to test 1) is it feasible 2) will it look like I hope. I can pay for shipping as well. Please e-mail me for the particulars. Thanks.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Not trying to be insulting here, but keep in mind that if it's scrap...it most likely won't be heat-treated.

If it's in the annealed state, it won't finish out like it will once it's been heat-treated/tempered.

Ah, but if they're non-stainless, it's likely that he can turn a torch on them and chuck 'em in some oil, non?
