Metal shavings in folding mechanism?

Hi all,
Just picked up my Byrd Cara Cara and I'm quite surprised at how nice it is for a cheap knife. The only problem I have is when I press the notch to unlock the blade and make it fold, I hear a noise that sounds like metal shavings scraping. In the past I would have ignored this, I actually did with another knife I have... but a few days later that knife was able to close without me even pushing the notch to release it. I'm just worried if I open and close this cara cara too much, it'll crap itself and not lock properly. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Is it even a problem? I have a Dragonfly as well and its been perfect and I want to keep it that way.... so if I have to clean or oil this cara cara, should I do it to my dragonfly too?

Thanks for your help. :)

If I'm reading it right, you can open the knife, then close it without moving the locking bar first. Right? If so, then a locking knife that doesn't lock doesn't sound good to me. Maybe send it back to Spyderco?

Looking at the catalog picture, no screws visible except for the clip screws, so I'd say disassembly is out of the question. But note that this is from someone who hasn't handled one, so I might be wrong.

The knife that doesn't lock is my old one(not a Spyderco). However, just before my old knife stopped locking, it was making the same noise my Spyderco is. Like most folders, when the knife is opened and you want to close it, you press the release button on the spine of the knife to release the locking mechanism. When I press it, it makes a noise as if there is sand in there. My other folders are all quiet when I press this release button but this Cara Cara sounds like it's rubbing against something

If you mean the same what I think you mean :D  then it is normal (provided the mentioned knife is new) - moving parts have quite rough surfaces and as there are moving parts they brush. It will break in with the time (err, not exactly with time rather with few dozens of opening and closing :))

If it started now and didn't behave so in the past, try to wash the knife (detergent and water stream works perfectly :)) as it may be just dirt (or sand, pocket lint etc.) that got inside

I would try blasting the knife out with WD-40 and then apply a drop of oil to the pivot. The WD-40 should clean out any grit that's in the knife. A blast of compressed air would also help.
