That is fantastic Bruce! Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it all together to share with us.

Bruce, that's the best tutorial I've seen anywhere on any subject. I don't have any questions at all, you covered every one of them about the time they were forming up in my mind. I can't wait to see all the influences you'll create on here! Thank you very much.

By the way, it was one of your tutorials (cutlass grinding?) that taught me how to grind that double edge knife I'm working on. You are a great help to me.

Bruce, thank you very much, for taking the time to do this. I have been waiting a long time to see it.
You didn't have to wax and polish that little red vise just for the tutorial though.;)

Glad you guys like it..
Heck I bought the new vice and it just hasn't gotten broke in good yet. These little cheap vices don't last long enough to get them dirty any more.I need to get a good one some day..

Thanks Bruce,I've been wanting to do one of these sheaths for over a year, but was't real sure how to go about it,You have cleared it up,great job...

Thanks Bruce, you put a lot of time and effort in that tutorial, time you could have used making knives to sell. It's greatly appreciated!!

Great tutorial Bruce! Thanks!!! :D :D :D

What exact silver solder/braze and flux do you use? And what supplier do you go to for your nickel silver stock?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick,The Silver Braze I am using at the moment comes from the factory that Donna works at,It is the type that turns a brassy color and isn't the good stuff.I need to order from Rio Grande and get the Nickel Silver Braze and Nickel silver from them.It does cost a little more than most suppliers but it is jewelers grade and comes dead soft and is the same all the time.If you haven't checked them out yet here is the web site so you can order there free catalogs. They have all kinds of neat things.Since they are a jewlers suppy they have all the different metals and findings and things like that so a person could really dress up a knife and sheath.

To answer part of your Question Nick,I am using what ever NS I can get my hands on at the moment..

Bout time Bruce:D , excelent work on the tutorials as always. You answered a lot of questions that I had.

One question, the only other time I've seen anything on metal sheaths was from the book knife craft. While info wass real sketchy, they used linnen for the linner and it suronded the blade like an inner sheath. Does this work better, or is it just over kill?

Outstanding tutorial, and an outstanding knife and sheath, thanks for sharing.

Will,Over the years they have lined the inside of the sheaths with all kinds of things. The felt will flatten out and not hold as well after awhile.Leather will cause rusting if the knife is left in the sheath for extended perioeds of time..I have even heard of the beinhg lined with Duct Tape.Which I have tried and like about the best ast it holds good and doesn't scratch the blade.
But the felt is classy looking and more on the royal looking lines to me..

Nobody said wheather the site was to slow to load,Sould I make it two pages instead of one..???
bruce

Bruce, it loads fine for me but I'm spoiled with a fast connection. I don't think anyone would mind if one of your tutorials loaded a little slowly... :D

I do have a question though - what guage NS were you using?

Thanks again, fantastic help.

Dave

Thanks Dave..
In this Tutorial I was using .040 inch thick NS it is allot stiffer to work but if you have something a little off you have allot more room to clean it up on the grinder.I prefer .032 thick for the bodies and when I do a throat and tip I like .025..Which if anyone is curious The throat and tips are constructed in the same manner as the full sheath just in two smaller parts or should I say 4 parts to make the two parts...
Bruce

Thanks Bruce. My Rio Grande catalogs came last week (good or bad deal, depending on whether you're paying bills too) and am preparing my first order. I'm getting some NS wire for a handle, and will go ahead and stock up on sheath & tip material too. That bowie you saw is coming up in a few weeks, it'll have a sheath with NS tip and throat (well, that's Plan A).

Thanks again,
Dave
