Metal Types?

Ok. What exactly do all these things stand for when referring to a BM 42 Bali: 6AL-4V Ti, and 12C27 Steel. What exactly do these things mean?

I would have to say that 6AL-4V Ti is the Titanium handle and the 12C27 is the blade steel.

I don't know too much about the specifics of either, except that Titanium is highly corrosion resistant and very strong for its weight. Good for handle material.

The 12C27 is supposed to be a decent steel, I just don't know where it lies among the other steels. From what I've heard, it holds its edge about the same as ATS-34. Not sure what truth this holds.

I'll see if I can find out more. You may want to look at Benchmade or Spyderco's site to see what they have to say.

Ok, just checked, they don't say much....they mention the handle material a bit, but not the steel...although, the name Sandvick does strike a mental note with me as to where it comes from.

Someone here should have even more info(gee, more than this? lol). Good luck.

6al-4v Ti means it is a Titanium alloy containing Titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. Adding these metals increases corrosion resistance and strength.
