Snapped a picture from tonight, it's pretty easy, and probably already covered somewhere. Take a sharp drill bit, drill the length of your screw, screw it in, and pry the wedge out with a claw hammer. (Hint, use padding between the hammer and axe head). Most wedges are really soft metal.

Yeah never thought to do that. I'm not too sure if I'd be wanting to dull a good drill bit that way though.. I've had good luck just drilling holes around the wedge then using locking pliers to get a solid hold of it. You can then pry the pliers out (wedge attached) with a claw hammer. Not too great if you want to save the handle, but I've never needed to remove the wedge out of a handle that I intended to keep.

I've also had luck using self-tapping screws. That way you don't mess up any bits.

He did use a screw not the actual drill bit to pry on. Look at the picture, he just drilled a hole before putting the screw in.

Bits are cheap and easily sharpened with a Drill Doctor. And drilling a wedge shouldn't dull them anyway. Just keep it slow and use a little Rapid Tap.

I use the method killa mentioned for getting out small metal wedges. But when the main wedge is metal Crazy's idea is great.
